Melbourne Airport External Wayfinding Guidelines
Semaphore have been working closely alongside Melbourne Airport to develop their external wayfinding signage guidelines.
With a staggeringly large footprint and over 20 unique operational areas, each with their own set of wayfinding challenges, Semaphore undertook the immense task of audits and stakeholder interviews to understand each individual area in detail, identifying user pain points to develop appropriate solutions for each external area.
A consolidated signage suite, categorised into three key sign families, was developed to respond to legibility requirements, viewing distances and the site’s physical conditions.
Refined monolithic forms were the basis of the design concept, with four fundamental extrusions extrapolated to form an adaptive signage suite.
We look forward to continuing our relationship with Melbourne Airport and seeing this project come to fruition in the coming years.
