Queen & Collins

The public realm at Queen & Collins spans over three levels, creating a lively and richly textured series of open air lanes, courtyards and intimate squares or ‘campiellos’. The building’s neo-gothic character is amplified in the architecture and interior palette which features marble, terrazzo and coloured glass, drawing reference the streets of Venice.

The wayfinding signage follows the reference of Venice, with signs located at laneway corners, creating a sense of discovery. The use of a framing device was developed to contain directional messages and reveal the architectural materiality behind, giving a sense of a ‘light touch’, respecting the heritage fabric. Pathways through the precinct are illuminated by pink lanterns, guiding visitors through the space through a series of beacon like elements.

Bronze was used throughout the signage system, reflecting the architecture and the neo gothic aesthetic.

The project extended to the office fitouts for Levels 1 & 2, which adopted the same directional wayfinding to help visitors navigate the co-working space.

Heritage Interpretation signage celebrates Queen and Collins’ rich history and is located throughout the precinct to continue the theme of discovery.
