Western Edge Biosciences
The University of Melbourne’s Biosciences wayfinding unifies the highly functional requirements of the building’s programme with the aspirational architectural objectives.
Through early collaboration with Hassell Studio, surfaces in key locations were reserved for wayfinding and framed using the same timber detailing principles developed for the vitrines and study nooks. These surfaces became a canvas for wayfinding, regulatory and room booking information, arranged in a graphically considered way to suit the calmness of the space. The business-like nature of the wayfinding was offset by the organic design of the lift graphics, which we developed using cell-based imagery produced by Vet Science PHD candidates.
