Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct
The City of Greater Geelong’s new civic precinct name, Wurriki Nyal, comes from the Wadawurrung words ‘speak and talk together’. The development unites 900 employees from across seven offices, focusing on collaboration and community well-being. The permeable precinct encourages public access to surrounding streets and destinations, creating a headquarters that is truly civic and thriving.
In order to unite the exterior, retail, workplace, end-of-trip and First Nations elements, a robust, humanistic graphic system was established.
Signage for exterior areas used natural timber and stone, linking back to the landscape material palette. Interpretive elements were integrated into landscaping elements, allowing the content and cultural messaging to be embedded within the landscape in a meaningful way.
Workplace signage was designed to be pragmatic, robust and recessive – allowing the exposed CLT timber structure to take centre stage.
To activate the car park and end-of-trip facility, a dynamic set of large format graphics in striking colours was used, creating a strong sense of activation and identity.
